Motorcycle hangouts in Dallas
Dallas is actually pretty easy to get around on a bike, and there are lots of great places to stop for a bite or a drink. If you’re looking for a biker bar, in particular, Dallas has you covered. Here are the stops we recommend:
Strokers Ice House Bar & Grill
What’s better than a motorcycle dealer with rare and custom bikes that has its own roadhouse with quirky decor, pool tables, pub grub, and live music? One that has all of that and a tattoo parlor! So it goes without saying that Strokers needs to be on your list of stops in Dallas. (Oh, and Jell-O wrestling. They have that sometimes, too…)
Single Wide
If you make your way over to the buzzing Greenville area, you can check out Single Wide. A dive bar with a dash of hipster, this place has a kitschy, sort of intimate atmosphere, and the bartenders there are known to make some of the best drinks in the Big D.
Reno’s Chop Shop Saloon
In the ultra cool Deep Ellum neighborhood, you’ll find Reno’s. It’s exactly the type of place you picture when you hear the words ‘biker bar’. Line of Harleys out front, no-frills atmosphere, and cheap drinks. Oh, and bikers. But don’t be intimidated; Reno’s is a friendly place where everyone is welcome. If you’re over the whole hipster faux-edgy thing, you’ll love Reno’s—it’s the real deal.
Southern Throwdown
If you’re looking for an awesome Dallas motorcycle event, you may want to plan your visit to coincide with the Southern Throwdown motorcycle show, which takes place in September each year. It’s one of the largest bike week events in the country, an expansive vintage motorcycle show held at the Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum.
Dallas Weather & Riding
Dallas has a climate that can be a little tough to nail down, as far as finding ideal riding weather. During the winter, you’ll need to be prepared for rain, ice, and even a dusting of snow on occasion. Spring can have some great riding weather, in the 70s, but it’s also prone to tornadoes, thunderstorms, and hail (we’re talking serious hail—golf ball to baseball-sized hailstones are not uncommon). Summer is typically very hot (80s, 90s, and above), with high humidity.
Dallas Motorcycle Rules & Tips
As always, it’s important to ride safely. In Dallas, that means watching out for ice (in the winter months), being prepared for hail, and cars turning from the middle lane.
If you’re 21 or older, you don’t have to wear a helmet in Texas as long as you’ve completed a DMV-approved Motorcycle Operator Training Course or are covered with at least $10,000 in medical insurance.
Any passengers on your bike must be at least five years old. If your passenger is under 21, they have to wear a helmet, and if they’re over 21, they can ride without a helmet only if you (the driver of the bike) meet the helmet exemption requirements. You also can’t carry a passenger unless the bike you’re on has a permanent passenger seat.
Preparing For Your Dallas Ride
Because Dallas has such a hot and humid climate much of the year, you’ll want to bring protective but well-ventilated clothing if you’re visiting in spring or summer months. If you’ll be there in the fall or winter, you’ll want to bring gear that will keep you warm in the high 30s to low 60s range. Bringing layers is always a good idea—that way you'll be prepared for temperature fluctuations.

You’ll of course also want to bring your helmet, riding boots, and jacket, etc. (Make sure you check out our article on traveling with gear before you leave!) If you’re not traveling with your protective gear, please let us know and we can work with the owner to try and find local options for you. Often, owners are more than happy to lend their gear to fellow riders.
