Best Motorcycle Rides in and Around Kansas City
Some of the best motorcycling routes near Kansas City:
- Missouri River Loop (123 miles)
- K-7 to Rulo along the river (84 miles)
Missouri River Loop
This is a great ride because the Missouri River is just absolutely gorgeous. It’s one of the few places in Kansas and Eastern Missouri where you see lots of trees. Head east from Kansas City on I70, then turn north onto Missouri Highway 131.
Head east or west along US 24 in Wellington, which panhandles the river. You can go as far as you want, we recommend starting west until you reach Route 291, merge onto the highway and take the bridge over the river, then hang a right on 210 and go the East for a while.
K-7 to Rulo Along the River
Leave the city on I70 and take exit 224B for US73. Stop at Bike’s Burgers and Ice Cream for lunch or a late breakfast, then head north along US73. At first, this route seems like just fields and grain, but keep on pushing through, and you’ll see the most gorgeous views of the river. It's a great way to taste the Midwest on these long, straight highways.
By the end of the route, the four-lane straight highway gives way to hills and curves, which are great for enjoying the afternoon. You end up in Rulo, a quaint little town on the shores of Big Lake.

Knuckleheads
Nice hangout to watch live music with a strong biker vibe. They have multiple floors and sometimes have more than one band on at a time. Lots of local musicians play here, but they have some big acts as well. The bar is cash only
JCs Sports Bar
Dive bar feeling and not too crowded. Not actually a sports bar, but the locals can’t stop gushing about how it feels like family here. Definitely a place to check out when you’re far from home and looking for some quick friends.
Boozers Bar and Grill
Hosts bike nights with bike wash girls. Plenty of bikers come here every night, a great place to find your biking tribe. It's a crazy local place owned by two women who grew up in the area, and the food is pretty fantastic. When you come here, take your time riding into the parking lot; it’s a little tight at the entrance.

Kansas City Weather for Motorcycle Riding
Summertime riding in Kansas can be hot. Be sure to bring your vented jacket. Rainy days aren’t too common in the summer, but you’ll see some amazing storms in the late summer into fall. Of course, there are tornado warnings during that season as well.
Wintertime weather in Kansas is unpredictable, to say the least. Snow and ice are randomly sprinkled from November to March. You’ll find some days above 60 degrees every winter month, with a day above 50 almost weekly.
You’ll also have some brutally cold and windy storms blow through. If you bring your gear and pick your day, you’ll have a good time. The best thing about renting a bike is you’re flexible–pick it up for the good weather and drop it off again when things get colder.
Kansas City Motorcycle Laws and Tips
In Kansas, helmets are required for riders or passengers under 18, and all bikers must have some sort of eye protection. A windshield counts, as does a full-face helmet. Lane splitting is illegal here, so keep your handlebars in your own lane.
