Exploring The Twisties From Denver To Vegas

The roads between Denver and Las Vegas have sweeping mountains, bright lights, wildlife, nightlife, and everything in between. The broad range of views, out-of-the-way towns, and landmarks make it an incredible motorcycle route. Here are some of our recommended stops and highlights for your Colorado to Nevada motorcycle trip planning.

First Stop: Denver, Colorado

The “Mile High City” is the first stop on this trip. This city in the shadows of the mountains shines bright.

Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs

Stop by for some of the most unique hot dogs around. Including ostrich, wild boar, rattlesnake, elk, antelope, buffalo, and even an award-winning vegan dog.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre

In less than 30 minutes from the city you can heighten your senses with the epic views and the perfect acoustic surroundings.

Hot Springs

There are hundreds of hot springs around Colorado, but the best of them is the pool in Salida. With year-round soaking options it is perfect way to give your muscles a break after a long motorcycle ride.

Third Stop: Ouray, Colorado

Nestled in a canyon at the base of the stunning San Juan Mountains, this quaint town acts as a base camp for all experiences in the great outdoors. Heading out for your next destination, Durango is going to take you along the mecca of motorcycle roads—The Million Dollar Highway. If you have a GoPro and a helmet mount now would be a good time to use it.

Ouray Ice Park

This man-made ice climbing park is built in a spectacular natural gorge. It is a sight to behold and the perfect place to try something new and “cool”.

House made beer paired with comfort food with a twist. Lots of outdoor seating with world-class views. Chat up the locals—who are regulars—to make sure you don’t miss a thing on this creative menu.

Million Dollar Highway

Fourth Stop: Durango, Colorado

Durango is located near the New Mexico border, at the foot of the San Juan Mountains. From historical sites, natural attractions, and modern wonders, Durango has something for everyone.

Mesa Verde National Park

This park offers a rare look into the Ancestral Puebloans who made it their home for over 700 years. There are nearly 5,000 known archaeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings—some of the most notable and best preserved in the US.

Fifth Stop: St. George, Utah

Snow Canyon

Visit Snow Canyon to experience the landscape of ancient lava flows and red Navajo sandstone. You can explore the unique terrain by hiking, biking, camping, and even on horseback.

St. George Historic Downtown

Museums, boutiques, art galleries, and historic homes can all be seen in this city full of history and culture.

Zion National Park

This Utah nature preserve is by distinguished it’s steep red cliffs. The Virgin River which cuts through the park, flows to the Emerald Pools, which have waterfalls, a hanging garden, and lots of incredible hiking.

Final Stop: Las Vegas, Nevada

This vibrant city is more than just casinos, shows, music, food, attractions, and shopping. But, what else could there be? Just outside of Sin City is a world of natural wonders to rest your eyes on.

Fruit pie, cream pie, specialty pie, savory pot pie...is there anything this landmark pie shop does not have in a buttery crust? We highly recommend you finding out for yourself. Don’t be surprised if you pull away with a to-go box in your saddle bag.

Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam is on the border between Nevada and Arizona and impounds Lake Mead. It’s the largest reservoir in the United States by volume, and an awe-inspiring sight to see. Check it out up close or take a helicopter ride for an incredible sky-high vantage point.

Jean Dry Lake Bed

This is one of many dry lake beds just about 30 minutes away from Las Vegas. This one has served as a backdrop for movies such as  “The Hangover,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” and “Casino.” The flat terrain makes for easy adventures, but also be prepared for windy and dusty conditions.

Pinball Hall of Fame

Wall-to-wall pinball machines offer entertainment for the entire family. And no one is going to say “place your bets.” Bring the whole crew and decide what your own stakes are.
