Brought up by a Harley riding dad, Petra K. of Austin, TX has traveled many roads on many bikes. Read on to find out about this world-traveling, Twisted Road member. We hope her adventures will inspire you to rent a bike and plan some adventures of your own.
How long have you been riding, which bikes have you owned and how did you become interested in riding?
Legally since 2006. Prior to that, whatever bike I could get onto. BMW 650 (sold), BMW 700GS, BMW RnineT (sadly, sold), Triumph Bonneville T100. My dad was a Harley rider as a young man. I grew up on his stories and always knew I would ride motorcycles.
What moto trips have you taken (long or short). Where did you go, stay and explore? Tell us some highlights.
Portugal—10 days on rented BMWs—it was stunning.
Oman and UAE—I would love to return to Oman and explore it even more.
South Africa—Cape, Gauteng, and Mpumalanga—I had the pleasure of riding in a game reserve on a rented BMW—I want to go back to Africa and explore more.
40 of the 50 US states—the shortest trip was 2 days on a rented Harley—still not quite sure where we went—somewhere upstate New York. The longest time-wise was close to a month —Texas through Tennessee to Florida via Baton Rouge home. The longest (5250m) was this June—made it up to Glacier National Park. We were trying to get away from hot Texas weather. Our hottest day up north was 117º, followed 2 days later by rain, sleet, hail, wind, and 37º of misery.
What hobbies do you enjoy when you're not riding?
I always take a sketch pad, pencils, and watercolor along and a good book or two. And always I seem to take thousands of pictures.
What do you enjoy about being part of the Twisted Road community?
Reading about other people's adventures, there is always something I file away for future reference.
What are your favorite biker-friendly places around your hometown?
We avoid Austin as we don't like the traffic. We are so spoiled in this area for biker-friendly places that I don't even know where to start. Any place on River Road, New Braunfels.
What are your favorite rides near your hometown?
1431 to Marble Falls, 165 from Henly to Blanco with a stop at The Deutsch Apple. Blanco to Kendalia and Boerne.
What location is on your moto trip bucket list?
Alaska and I want to do the backcountry routes.
