The ever-growing Twisted Road community has shown us that motorcycles bring together open-road-loving riders of all ages and genders. We continue to honor Women’s History month with another fierce, female rider: Twisted Road member Michaela U. She has a lot of years and miles ahead of her and her dreams are set on owning a bigger (and faster) motorcycle, exploring new roads, and meeting like-minded people in the moto community. Here at Twisted Road this is what we love the most — supporting, educating and connecting our riders. Read on to learn about Michaela
Tell us about your riding experience. How long have you been riding, and how many bikes have you owned? How did you first become interested in riding?
I started riding a year ago, and it’s probably my all-time favorite activity. I know I haven’t been riding for long but it’s definitely an activity I will continue to enjoy.
I have owned just one bike, my lil Kawasaki z125, but I hope to have a Harley one day! I’ve always admired bikes, and my mom and stepdad rode for a few years, and then my brother started riding a few years before I did. Before that, I would bum rides off of friends or family members with bikes to get my “motorcycle” fix.
Have you taken any long moto trips? Tell us about them - where did you go, where did you stay, who did you ride with?
Unfortunately, because my bike is so low in CCs, I can’t really travel too far, and I can’t get up to the required speeds on most long-stretch roads. I plan on taking many when I get my Harley, though! (Iron 883 with mini apes on ‘em.)
Tell us some more about you - where do you live? What kind of work do you do?
I live in Ohio, which is okay. There’s not much to do here, but when you hop on your bike, everything seems like an adventure: trips to the post office, going to get ice cream, or just taking a ride to take a ride. Currently I am a security guard for a refinery, but I have a degree in Criminology so I hope to do bigger and better things someday.
What are your hobbies - what do you enjoy doing when you're not riding?
I love to read, and am often absorbed in a good book. I enjoy good company—my friends and family make me whole. I also love to travel when the opportunity presents itself (which is harder and harder right now, but there is sunshine ahead!). Chilling at home is also nice, where I spend time watching Schitt’s Creek and playing with my rabbit, Apollo.
Tell us about your experiences with Twisted Road - as either an owner, as a rider, or both. What do you enjoy most about being part of our community?
I think Twisted Road is a platform like no other. I was so stoked to find it, and to see all of the people on the site who love bikes as much as I do. Even if you aren’t planning on buying a bike (and you don't need to, with Twisted Road to rent from!), this is such a unique service that I feel like it deserves more recognition.
What are your favorite rides near your hometown?
I live in small town surrounded by equally smaller towns and a few bigger ones, so I have a lot of state parks and metro-parks. Those little parks are the most fun to ride through, and since I love nature, I find myself finishing my rides and then driving through one before I head home. I like to ride through Pearson Metropark and Maumee Bay State Park! Both located in Oregon, Ohio. Since my bike is small, and I can’t take it on the highway, I find local spots to ride! Can’t wait to add some more places to my resume when I get a bigger bike one day!
What location is on your moto trip bucket list?
My mom lives down in Florida, so I one day hope to ride down to there and camp along the way. I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos of people riding around and moto camping and it seems so fun. It seems really peaceful and a nice and cheap way to see more of the country.
We know that our community of riders, owners, and moto-enthusiasts are the best source of input on local events, roads, routes, restaurants, landmarks, gear, and all things moto.
