When you're planning to be in the Fort Hood area this route should not be missed. This route has scenic roads and sweeping vistas any rider will love, but it's more about the scenery than the stops—so make sure to fill your tank and stomach before you head out. We did, however, find a few hidden gems to visit should you need to shake the dust off.

Starting Point: Harker Heights, Texas
Located about an hour outside of Austin, this small town has fishing, hunting, hiking, golf, camping, picnicking, and swimming.
Stillhouse Hollow Lake
The deep, clear water of this lake holds both large and smallmouth bass and channel catfish for fishing on shore or by boat. Rather see the wildlife on land? Bird watching is a favorite activity here, with the occasional sighting of an American bald eagle, as well as many more species of birds. Basketball, horseshoes, and other family-friendly fun is also available at the lake.
Boulders Sport Climbing Center
With walls soaring up to 40' in the air and climbs for all skill levels, this indoor climbing center is sure to get your blood pumping. Reserve a spot today for a birds-eye view and a challenge so fun, you won't even realize you're getting a full-body workout.
In about 25 minutes, you will cross over the Lampass River into Maxdale, Texas, a known ghost town. The town population is a steady four (yep, four). Don't forget to check your tank before you leave Harker Heights, because it might be a while before you have another chance to refuel.
Another 10 minutes takes you through Oakalla, Texas, then it's on to Burnet.
Burnet, Texas
Known as the Bluebonnet Capital of Texas, Burnet is home to state parks, wineries, and more.
Longhorn Cavern State Park
Hike the trails, have a picnic, explore the cave for limestone and crystal formations at this natural wonder.
Highland Lakes Squadron-Commemorative Air Force
Originally founded as a hobby, this base is dedicated to restoration and preservation of historic aircraft. Now it ranks as one of the largest air forces in the world.

Route Detour: If the words "PIE HAPPY HOUR" sound good to you, ride about 15 minutes south to Marble Falls—home to the Blue Bonnet Cafe —and get your fill.
Georgetown, Texas
Blue Hole Park
Limestone bluffs and towering trees surround this lagoon. Fishing, swimming, trails and scenic picnic areas are available for no fee to visitors. Check their site for rules and regulations.

Florence, Texas
Thirteen miles from Georgetown, you'll find the town of Florence.
