We spoke to David B. about his experiences on two wheels and with Twisted Road.
Tell us about your riding experience. How long have you been riding, and how many bikes have you owned? How did you first become interested in riding?
My cousin gave me a ride on his Kawasaki Zx10 when I was a young kid, and ever after I knew one day I had to ride. Started watching moto vloggers on YouTube (Jake The Garden Snake, Snowcat, etc), learning tons about bikes. Several years later I purchased a brand new 2015 Honda CB500F. After 2 years and over 45,000 miles racked up, I started looking for the next bike. Purchased a 2008 Yamaha FZ1 with 13,000 miles on the clock shortly thereafter. Still have both bikes and have taken the FZ1 everywhere from frosty mornings on The North Rim of the Grand Canyon, to summer rain next to the Florida panhandle beaches. Currently that bike has 45,000 miles. Another bike that was in the stable for a short time (totaled by a truck pulling across traffic) was a 2007 Suzuki DR-Z400sm. Very fun around town bike. Enjoyed the supermoto very much, and the next bike will likely be a Zero Sumo.
Have you taken any long moto trips? Tell us about them—where did you go, where did you stay, who did you ride with?
I've taken two long moto trips. Both solo. Rode from Houston down the south coast. After riding the A1A highway down to Ft. Lauderdale, turned around and headed north to Deals Gap in North Carolina. From there, extenuating circumstances cut the trip short. Completed the ride back to Houston from Bryson City, NC to Conroe, TX in about 18 hours. (My current distance record for one day.) Next trip was from Houston to Grand Canyon, looped through Zion National Park, up through the San Juan National Forest before heading back home. Mostly tarp camped on federal land.
Tell us more about you—where do you live? What kind of work do you do?
Live in Conroe, TX. Commute about 50 miles each day (via motorcycle) to work in IT Support for a midsize national bank.
What are your hobbies—what do you enjoy doing when you're not riding?
Hunting, fishing, photography…most anything that allows me to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.
Tell us about your experiences with Twisted Road - as either an owner, as a rider, or both. What do you enjoy most about being part of our community?
Renting a motorcycle in Los Angeles was the first time using Twisted Road for me. Flew in to visit my cousin for the weekend in San Diego, drove up to LA, picked up the bike from Daniel D. and put 300 wonderful miles on it.
What are your favorite rides near your hometown?
Farm to Market Road 149 north of Montgomery is a beautiful, twisty favorite running through the Sam Houston National Forest. Highway 150 running through Coldspring is another local goody.
Last question—where do you hope to ride one day?
Planning the next moto trip for September on the Northwest Coast. Due to vacation limitations, definitely plan to utilize Twisted Road.
