For those who thirst for a true globetrotting motorcycle, few motorcycles hold as much allure as the BMW GS “Adventure” platform.
This iconic adventure touring motorcycle—the long-distance version of the standard GS that is one of the most popular BMW rentals on our platform—has captured the hearts of riders worldwide since its debut in 2001 as the R 1150 GS Adventure.
Now, we finally have the details of the all-new R 1300 GS Adventure, released as a 2025 model.
Following BMW’s launch of the all-new R 1300 GS last year, it was inevitable that a companion GS Adventure version would drop soon after—that’s just how BMW Motorrad has been doing new platform launches for years. The German brand loves consistency in its cycles.
This release is a bit later than expected, but the wait was certainly worth it. The 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure updates the already stellar R 1300 GS platform with premium upgrades focused on touring, including more comfort, luggage capacity, and a larger fuel tank.
The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure carries forward a rich heritage of GS adventure touring bikes renowned for their durability, performance, and versatility. As the successor to the highly regarded R 1250 GS Adventure, it builds upon a solid foundation of proven technology and innovation. The ADV is packed with features for even the most discerning rider.
This comprehensive guide explores the features and specs of the all-new R 1300 GS Adventure. We expect these to be available for rent on our platform soon. The GS is such a popular motorcycle rental that one company, MotoCalifornia, offers five of them!
Power and Performance
The new 1300cc boxer engine with ShiftCam technology is a significant highlight. The ShiftCam tech, which varies intake-valve timing and lift, ensures optimal performance across the rev range.
This engine cranks out 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 110 ft/lbs of torque at 6,500 rpm, mirroring the performance of the standard model. Liquid cooling with a radiator helps manage higher thermal stresses, while the DOHC cylinder heads use chain-driven cams to enhance durability and efficiency. The impressive compression ratio is 13.3:1, indicating a powerful and efficient engine setup.
Transmission and Weight Reduction
The Adventure model carries over the six-speed transmission and clutch from the standard R 1300 GS. The clutch and transmission are positioned underneath the engine, which aids in weight distribution and shaves off 8.6 pounds from the total engine mass.
The wet clutch includes assist and slipper functions and an anti-hopping mechanism. Shift Assistant Pro remains optional, providing seamless gear changes without using the clutch.
Chassis and Suspension
The GS’s new steel sheet-metal frame and lattice-tube aluminum subframe are retained in the Adventure model, with modifications to suit longer trips and heavier loads. The use of load-bearing, extruded aluminum tubes enhances durability.
The EVO Telelever front system and EVO Paralever rear end are also present, but with 0.8 inches more travel at both ends compared to the standard GS, giving the Adventure model 8.3 inches of travel up front and 8.7 inches at the rear.
Ergonomics and Comfort
Long days on the road or trails are no problem with the standard rider seat's variable height of 34.3" to 35", the easily adjustable windscreen that shields you from wind and elements, and the comfortable hand protection. Seat heating is an option for those cold mornings.
This ergonomic design allows riders to log mile after mile without discomfort. BMW Motorrad has designed the riding triangle to create a neutral seating position, improving comfort. The handlebar offers multi-position adjustment, allowing you to fine-tune your preferred reach. These combined efforts mean you can maintain focus and maximize riding enjoyment.
BMW has paid special attention to rider comfort, offering the Comfort rider’s seats in three height options with heating as an optional feature. The seat height is adjustable (+/- 0.8 inch) and includes a tilt adjustment (4 degrees).
The passenger footrest extensions can be removed for a sportier solo configuration, and three different grab handles can be fitted. The ergonomics are modular, with options for handlebar variants, handlebar risers, and adjustable handlebar twist angles to suit different rider preferences.
Adaptive Vehicle Height Control and Comfort Options
The new adaptive vehicle height control and adaptive vehicle height control comfort are available as optional extras for the R 1300 GS Adventure chassis.
With adaptive vehicle height control, the R 1300 GS offers fully automatic vehicle height adjustment to suit the operating conditions, ensuring maximum comfort without compromising riding dynamics and lean angle freedom. The vehicle height is lowered by 1.2 inches when stationary and at low speeds.
The R 1300 GS Adventure can also be fitted with the optional adaptive vehicle height control comfort system for smaller riders or for particularly good accessibility and even easier handling. It has all the features and functions of the vehicle height control, with a standard height of 0.8 inches lower.
Electronics and Rider Aids
The Adventure’s electronics package, with all the latest tech, is typical of the Bavarian company. This includes a 6.5-inch full-color TFT display, Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), and Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with a braking function. The TFT display integrates with the BMW Motorrad multi-controller for easy access to vehicle settings and connectivity functions. Four standard riding modes—Rain, Road, Eco, and Enduro—are available, with an optional Riding Modes Pro package adding Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, and Enduro Pro modes. Safety features include Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and Hill Start Control (HSC).
Fuel Tank, Luggage, and Others
Visually, the Adventure stands out with its new aluminum tank and enhanced storage capabilities. The 7.9-gallon tank is narrower at the sides for improved ergonomics and includes three fastening elements for additional luggage.
The Adventure model arrives with aluminum side cases with a total capacity of over 73 liters. These cases mount securely to forged aluminum case holders and include a magnetic coupling for the USB charging socket in the left case. Optional volume extensions provide even more storage space.
The new profile also allows for easier refueling. A new LED headlamp, auxiliary LED headlamps, and integrated LED turn signals in the hand protectors add to the bike’s rugged and modern look.
Additional features include a large adjustable windshield, heated grips, and rubberized tank trays for added protection and comfort.
